Natalie Maris is our grammar guru, spell checker and content creator – otherwise known as WestCoast Media’s Managing Editor. Natalie joined our team in 2012 as an editorial intern, where her love of writing and creative ideas quickly shone to be a perfect asset for our company.
As a Managing Editor, Natalie is responsible for brainstorming new content, writing feature articles, and editing anything that comes her way. Her favorite part of the job is being able to connect the community in such a tangible and meaningful way.
Natalie was born and raised in Chino Hills, before leaving to attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she graduated with a degree in English, with an emphasis in creative writing. Although deeply in love with the rustic beauty of San Luis Obispo, Natalie returned home to pursue her passion. She currently resides in Chino.
A lover of books since she was a little girl (her mom used to have to force her to stop reading, otherwise she would have starved!), you can usually find Natalie curled up at home with a novel. Her favorite author is Roald Dahl, and her current favorite genre is historical fiction. Her other obsessions include going to Angels games (bobblehead nights are her favorite), hitting up local hiking spots with her fiancé and rescue pup (with plans to hike the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim next year), and playing slowpitch softball (are 4 teams per season too many?).
She loves spending time with her family, both immediate and extended, and is extremely grateful that they are all a part of her life. She’s not ashamed to admit that she adores and obsesses over her fur-children, all rescues: 2 cats named Booger and Autry and 1 pit bull named Sierra. You can easily find them on her social media accounts, where she regularly shares any and all photos of them, because, why not? They’re adorable.
But perhaps the most important and special event in Natalie’s life right now is that she is engaged to her best friend and love of her life, Nate, who she plans on marrying in the fall of 2016. To love, adventures and beyond!
What community means to Natalie: It’s the opportunity to share, enjoy, help and love one another; to catch up with old friends and create new ones; to give us the resources, advice and comfort we need to make our world a better place. Community is family, community is home.
