“I would alter nothing of the journey made for it is in this road travelled that the sweetest of lessons are learnt.” – Truth Devour, Wantin
Life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, highs and lows. Enjoying a life that seems fulfilling isn’t always easy. The moment you begin to regret your past is the moment you stop living. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman took living a life without regrets to the next level in 2007’s The Bucket List. These two men went on an epic journey to fill their lives with extraordinary experiences. The question is, how fulfilled will you really feel once you reach the top of the mountain? Is it possible to live a happy life without always wanting more? Is happiness measured by the items on our bucket list? Some of the most popular ideas on a bucket list include playing the piano, parachuting, traveling abroad, learning a new language, running a marathon or achieving the ideal weight. People often feel that if they start checking off things on a bucket list, they will feel more whole and satisfied.
This year, we challenge you to add things to your bucket list that are meaningful and help you live life without regret. Try thinking of all the things you regret in life, and make a list of how you can take part in eliminating that regret. For some, it would be to send or give that apology you always feel anxious about. For others, it is releasing yourself out of that emotional prison and finally forgiving someone who hurt you. If your kids have moved out of the house, you may think of spending some quality time with them, so they don’t feel like strangers during the holidays. There is nothing wrong with getting a tattoo if it’s on your bucket list, but make sure you too won’t regret that. One of the most precious things about our lives here is giving and receiving love. If you embrace that, then it will be fulfilling to add to your list ways to increase the love in your life. Maybe it’s as simple as calling someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, just to tell them you love and appreciate them. It could be writing a hand-written letter and sharing with someone the impact they had on your life. Whatever it is, strive to reach that inner peace and take regret out of your vocabulary. After all, you only live once, so make your life worth living and love more! W
