Whether they bring to mind fresh baked cookies or hand knitted sweaters, grandparents hold a special place in our hearts. Serving as loving caregivers and sources of lasting inspiration, these mentors have contributed immeasurably to those around them- especially to their grandchildren. With Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 11th, it’s time to show them our appreciation for all that they do. Here are a few ideas for meaningful Grandparents Day gifts.
You can’t go wrong with the classics. Collect those dusty photos in your closet and bind them together in a nice album. Not only will this make a great coffee table accessory, it’s also certain to refresh memories that are sure to bring a smile to your grandparents’ faces.
It’s a tough job being a source of unconditional love. This creative idea is both fun and functional. Fill your kit with their favorite candies or music, along with things that they may actually need, like safety pins, rubber bands, or paper clips. For the grandmother or grandfather who goes with the flow and likes to gets the job done with some humor, this is the perfect gift!
Another classic, but beloved; add in a heartfelt, original poem or verse and this gift is priceless. No matter what your age, handmade cards show love more than any store bought one can.
VISIT A NURSING/RETIREMENT HOME
For those whose grandparents are no longer with them, Grandparents Day may be an awkwardly avoided holiday. However, the same can be said about those without grandchildren to celebrate with. Visiting a nursing home can both relieve your feelings and make someone’s day a little less lonely.
However, even though these gifts are great to give, there’s not a gift grandparents would love more than spending time with their grandchildren. Surprise them with a visit or go out to lunch (Grandparents Day is on a Sunday after all) or at least remember to call! Grandparents Day is a time to celebrate and appreciate our grandparents…And of course to tell them how much we love them!
Happy Grandparents Day!
