Ham Operator Classes
Amateur Radio (ham radio) license classes will be offered in Chino Hills starting on July 10, 2018, with a second session starting August 28, 2018. Ham radio operators must be licensed by the Federal Communications Commission. Licensed ham radio operators can communicate with others even when there is no power or cell service. The Chino Hills Auxiliary Radio Team, also known as CHART, brought the classes to Chino Hills to introduce more residents to the world of ham radio. They volunteer their time to provide emergency communications for the City of Chino Hills.
The courses will be offered on Tuesday nights at the Chino Hills Community Center, 14250 Peyton Drive. The six-week Technician Class and General Class will be offered on Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. starting on July 10 with testing administered on August 14.
The next session starts on August 28, 2018 on Tuesdays, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. with final testing on October 2.
Participants will be required to purchase their own course book: the; or, the ARRL General Class License Manual prior to the first class meeting. Each student will be charged $20, in advance, which includes the testing fee and instructor charge.
The Technician Class license is the entry level license for ham radio operators. The Technician course culminates with a 35-question test on radio theory, regulations, and operating practices. A Technician Class license allows a ham radio operator to communicate locally, and most often, within North America.
