CHART Offers HAM Radio Classes
Think for a moment. Imagine if one day, you lost your ability to use your phone to communicate. No phone calls. No texts. No social media. How would you connect to the world? How would you get important emergency news and information? How would you reach your family? One answer is by HAM Radio.
Chino Hills is fortunate to have its own amateur HAM radio group, Chino Hills Auxiliary Radio Team (CHART). This group of skilled radio operators is helping to ensure the City is prepared in the event of an emergency by continually training and conducting practice drills.
As part of the group’s efforts to be prepared to help our community in the event of an emergency, CHART also offers amateur radio licensing classes at the Chino Hills Community Center. The first classes were held earlier this year and 11 participants graduated with either a technician or general-level license.
New classes are planned for July and August. The first session will be on five Tuesdays evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7. The test will be August 14th.
A second session will be on Tuesdays at the same time, from August 28, Sept. 4, 11, 16, and 25th with the test on Oct. 2nd. You just need to attend one session.
